When I think of the word discipline, it doesn't bring about warm, fuzzy, feelings. I think of the ONE and ONLY time I received a spanking from my Dad. I think of being sent to my room or having my mouth washed out with soap because I lied to my mom. Lately the word discipline has been popping into my mind. God has been revealing areas in my life that lack discipline. Taking care of myself physically - getting exercise, not drinking so many Dr Peppers.... Spending habits - desiring too Continue Reading
Be Careful What You Believe
Last week many of my adoption, orphan-loving friends (and myself included) were irate because of these comments made by Pat Robertson regarding adoption on a recent episode of the 700 Club! I'm not going to rehash what he said or even respond directly to it, because several people have already done a beautiful job sharing the truth - How God truly views adoption and the orphan. My fellow adoptive mama and bloggy friend, Erica, wrote this amazing response and I loved what Russell Moore had Continue Reading
Cupcakes, Thunderstorms and Wagons
This weekend brought two VERY nice surprises! Much needed rain and much cooler temperatures! I was glad to trade in the 100+ days for temps in the 70's. John and I decided we should take advantage of the cooler weather. We finally got to use the zoo pass we purchased a few months ago. It's just been too stinkin' hot to drag Jackson out in the heat. A trip to the zoo meant that Jackson got to ride in his big boy wagon for the first time! Um, He. Loved. It! He held on to the sides and just took Continue Reading
A Different Kind of Quiet Time
I recently finished reading Emily Freeman's, Grace for the Good Girl, and I just had to share something with you - especially my readers who have little ones at home! Don't get me wrong, I loved everything about this book, but there were two paragraphs that were like gems buried amidst the 224 pages. The words spoke right to my heart: "That year I learned what it meant to depend on Jesus as my source of life more than I ever had before. It didn't happen at 6 a.m. with my coffee and my pen Continue Reading
A Spiritual Lesson from a Baby Bottle
Jackson hasn't used a bottle in quite some time, but I put off packing them away until just the other day. Packing up the bottles means he's not a baby anymore. He's a big boy who uses a sippee cup. I don't have to feed him because he can hold the cup himself (and these days he's not a fan of sitting still in my lap - too much to see and do!) As I put his bottles in a box, along with some clothes that he's outgrown, a word popped into my mind - Spiritual growth. Just like a baby Continue Reading
