I've been angry at God. Yesterday, in my counselors office, I sobbed uncontrollably over Jackson's break up with PB&J. I voiced my fears and frustrations and said things I'd never say outside those four walls. She listened and then made a comment I haven't stopped thinking about. She said I'm always so transparent about motherhood. Sharing that it's both hard and holy; messy, mundane and miraculous. I don't hide the fact that it's hard. I put a lot of pressure on myself to be the Continue Reading
Nine Things I Learned in May
God Answered A Prayer (But Not Exactly How I Expected) At the beginning of PreK I began praying Jackson would find a buddy. One of my biggest fears is Jackson won't have friends. Social situations can be hard and when he's around other kids his age some of his differences are more apparent. I desperately want him to have little boys to hang out with. I've prayed about this many times (but maybe not as fervently as I should). No, Jackson doesn't have a group of boys he plays with on a regular Continue Reading
To the Mama of a Child with Apraxia {Apraxia Awareness Day}
Dear Apraxia Mama: It seems appropriate that Apraxia Awareness Day falls on Mother's Day this year. We're not only our kids' biggest advocates, we're their voice. We drive them countless miles to and from therapy. We speak "their language" and understand them when others don't. To the mama who's been doing the Apraxia song and dance for years - you rock! You've fought the good fight - maybe you've even finished the race. I hope you are celebrating today! But to the mama who Continue Reading
Let’s Celebrate {Apraxia Awareness Day}
There’s a verse in 2 Timothy that reminds me of the amazing thing I’ve been entrusted with. A little boy who has Childhood Apraxia of Speech. 2 Timothy 1:14 says, Guard that good thing entrusted to you. Each day God reminds me that I’m Jackson’s biggest advocate. Jackson was diagnosed with Childhood Apraxia of Speech in January 2015. When he was diagnosed he could only say a few words. Jackson is determined, he perseveres and he’s worked hard to find his voice! This year as we Continue Reading
Our Forever Family
Sunday we will celebrate being a Forever Family. The day will likely include donuts for breakfast, a few gifts, church and lots of family time. Jackson has requested a trip to the zoo, but it's supposed to rain all weekend. We'll most likely end up at the toy store or the movie theater. He's been wanting to see the new Disney movie Born In China. Whatever we end up doing, our Gotcha Day is all about celebrating adoption and the amazing story God wrote for our family. Below is an excerpt from Continue Reading
