I took a break from blogging about books in 2024; but I’m back.
I love sharing what I read and writing about books is a form of self-care. Something I need to do a better job of as the mama/caregiver of an autistic son. I also love hearing what others are reading and adding new titles to my TBR.
I think I’ll do things a little differently this time. Instead of sharing everything I read, I might just review the fiction books I finish. If a non-fiction book is really, really, life-changing I’ll include it, too. But I don’t think I’ll review every single NF book I read.
So with that being said, here we go! Here are the three fiction books I finished in January.
The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhorn
This is a gripping historical mystery based on the life and diary of Martha Ballard, a renowned 18th century midwife who defied the legal system. I couldn’t put this book down. I loved it so much and absolutely fell in love with Martha. It had been on my TBR list for a long time and it was the perfect book to kick off the new year. I have no doubt it will be one of my top reads of 2025.
God only knows what they (women) would do with the power of pen and ink at their disposal. ~Martha Ballard
MY RATING: 5/5 STARS
P.S. I Hate You by Lauren Connolly
When Josh dies, his final wish is for his sister and best friend to spread his ashes. Maddie will do anything for her brother, but she’s not happy about having to share her brother’s final wish with Dom, the boy that broke her heart. I would have given this book 5 stars, but the spice was just a little too much. It was a bit of a turnoff in a story about deep grief. I will say there was a plot twist at the end that I didn’t see coming.
MY RATING: 4/5 STARS
The Best of Friends by Lucinda Berry
Three best friends get a life-changing phone call one night. Their three teenage sons have been in a horrible accident. Can their friendship survive? Was it an accident or murder? I enjoyed this book, although at times it was hard to keep up with the characters. There were a few parts that felt a little over-the -top and the ending left a few unanswered questions.
MY RATING: 4/5 STARS
