Happy Halloween and Happy Book Review Day!
It’s currently snowing at my house. We’ll be bundling up to do our trick-or-treating this evening. Brrrr….
I wasn’t quite ready for winter; I love Fall so, so much!
But winter means plenty of time to cuddle up under a cozy blanket and read good books! It’s about time for me to start reading all the holiday books stacked up on my shelf.
This month I finished seven books – yes, two of them were non-fiction books about animals and snakes that I read to Jackson – but I’m totally counting them.
If you’re looking for a good thriller, historical fiction or Fall rom-com, I’ve got you covered…
Talking As Fast As I Can by Lauren Graham
I’ve recently started watching Gilmore Girls for the first time in my life, so I decided to listen to Lauren’s memoir. It was just okay for me. I think I would have enjoyed it more had I listened to it after finishing Gilmore Girls. I think I jumped the gun a little. I also wish she would have spent more time talking about her time on Parenthood because I just adored that show. Like, it’s one of my all-time favorites! Oh, and yes, she does talk very fast in the audio version. MY RATING: 3/5 STARS
The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
I read this book because my friend Emily said it might be her favorite read of 2023. It’s a story about a family living off grid in Alaska – a Vietnam vet, his wife and daughter. The family is looking for a new start; a way to escape the trauma brought on by the war. This is a story about dangerous love, survival, loss, friendship and sacrifice. A beautifully written book that will make you feel like you’re in the middle of Alaska. MY RATING: 5/5 STARS
Tricked in October by Starla Dekruyf
This was book #2 in a series I read last year. Kelsey is a widow trying to save her late husband’s bar. Her friend Davis is determined to help her despite her stubbornness to do it on her own. An easy-breezy, Fall rom-com about two best friends who fall in love. MY RATING: 3/5 STARS
None of This Is True by Lisa Jewell
A twisty thriller about two women who discover they’re birthday twins. Alix, a podcaster, finds something very intriguing about Josie, even though it leaves her feeling unsettled. She decides to do a podcast featuring the interesting woman whom she shares a birthday with. She’s not prepared for the secrets that will be revealed, or the damage that will be done to her family. MY RATING: 4/5 STARS
Pumpkin Everything by Beth Labonte
Amy returns to her hometown to take care of her grandfather after he drives his car through a Dunkin Donuts. She hasn’t been back to Autumnboro in a decade. She left the Fall capital of the world (and the love of her life) and never looked back; but she couldn’t forget completely. So she wrote books about the place she used to call home. Now she finds herself back in the house she grew up in, with the man she used to love living downstairs and a bunch of townspeople angry at her portrayal of them in her books. This is the perfect fall-themed, feel-good, rom-com. MY RATING: 3/5 STARS
