September was filled with good things, but that meant I had very little time to read. I’m pretty sure this was my most unproductive reading month of 2023, but seeing people I love was worth putting down the books!
I got to spend five glorious days with my bestie in Oklahoma. We talked about books, went to bookstores, filled out our book journals, ate Mexican food, got Dr Peppers from Classic 50’s and watched Gilmore Girls. We had so much fun doing a whole lot of nothing and it is exactly what I needed!!!! I hope we can make this a yearly tradition.
I also got to have lunch with my other book-loving friend, Kenna!
After my trip to Oklahoma, my cousin came to visit Michigan. I think she enjoyed the cooler temperatures much more than the 100+ degrees in Texas. I showed her around our little Hallmark town, we took a trip out to Lake Michigan and we binged the newest season of Virgin River.
When I wasn’t traveling to Oklahoma or showing my cousin around Michigan, I found time to finish three books. Here’s what I read in September…
The Cheat Sheet by Sarah Adams
I thought this would be a perfect, quick read to kick off Fall. A rom-com based around football? Yes, please! Bree and Nathan have been best friends since high school. They’ve never left the friend zone even though they both secretly have feelings for the other. When a video of Bree sharing her feelings for Nathan goes viral, his manager thinks a fake dating plan could boost his NFL career. Nathan thinks it’s the perfect way to reveal his true feeling for Bree. Will it work? MY RATING: 5/5 STARS
Counting the Cost by Jill Duggar
I didn’t plan to listen to this book, but my friend Emily and another friend highly recommended it. I decided to push play while I mowed the lawn and couldn’t stop listening. It was such an interesting book, even though I never watched the Duggar show. As a Christian, I could see the red flags in Jill’s religious upbringing within the very first pages of the book. Jill seemed very genuine and I’m glad she broke free from the cult she was raised in to find true freedom in Christ. MY RATING: 4/5 STARS
Can’t Help Falling by Courtney Walsh
I’m all about the Fall rom-coms this time of the year! Emmy is a bookish girl and Owen is a misunderstood, bad-boy. Emmy hasn’t seen Own since she declared her love for him eight years ago after he was left at the altar. Now, her long lost love is carrying her out of her burning house. Could her life be turning into one of the romance novels she loves so much? MY RATING: 4/5 STARS
