This month I swapped beach reads for a wider variety of genres. I needed a little change. I didn’t quite make it through my summer TBR, but maybe I’ll finish it in January when it’s snowing and I’m wishing I was at the beach soaking up some sunshine!
This month Jackson and I read the newest book in The Last FireHawk Series. We also started reading The Notebook of Doom series by Troy Cummings. It’s a cute series filled with silly monsters trying to take over a school/town. Jackson and I read books one and two. He even drew a picture of a balloon goon from book one!
We’ve had some cooler temps, so we took advantage of them and made a fire the other night. This Fall you will find me kicked back in my Adirondack chair, in a cozy sweatshirt, reading around the fire!
This month I read a cute rom-com, a historical fiction, a thriller and a book that made my head spin…
Losing Our Religion: An Altar Call for Evangelical America By Russell Moore
This is the book that made my head spin. It was deep. I felt like I needed a PhD in theology to really grasp it. But, this book made me feel a little less alone as a Christian who has no idea where she belongs in the political world. I’m not Republican or Democrat. Just thinking about the upcoming election makes my stomach turn. Reading this book made me realize I am not the only Christian questioning politicians claiming to be Jesus followers. Politicians who preach Christianity, but don’t reflect the Fruit of the Spirit. The biggest take away from this book: Christianity is not a political party! MY RATING: 3/5 STARS
The Roommate Pact by Allison Ashley
This was a super cute rom-com about Claire and Graham, friends/roommates who have a pact to get married at forty if they are still single. What Graham ends up in an accident, Claire steps in to take care of him and things heat up and feelings change. MY RATING: 4/5 STARS
The Block Party by Jamie Day
The annual block party ends in murder and there’s no telling who the murderer or the victim is with all the secrets and drama circulating on Alton Road. This book felt a little long and slow-going at times. It didn’t really get good for me until close to the end, then I stayed up until 1 a.m. to finish it. MY RATING: 3/5 STARS
The Secret Book of Flora Lea by Patti Callahan Henry
When a book shows up at Hazel’s work – a story almost identical to the one she used to tell her sister – she’s confused. Her sister has been missing for twenty years and Whisperwood was their secret – a place to escape the fear of World War II. Hazel has never given up hope that Flora might still be alive. Can the book lead her to her sister? MY RATING: 4/5 STARS
