This month I enjoyed reading on the shore of Lake Michigan. It’s not 30A, but The Great Lakes are growing on me. We spent several days enjoying the sunshine and shark-free waters!
This month I also celebrated My Little Library’s FIRST birthday! It has been a blast sharing my love of books and reading with my community. I never get tired of seeing people stop by to grab a book. It makes my heart happy!!! This month I filled my library with some of my favorite summer books to celebrate!
This month I finished seven books. My summer TBR stack is shrinking! Here’s what I read in July…
All That Is Mine I Carry With Me by William Landay
When a woman goes missing in 1975, people suspect her husband, a defense attorney, but there’s not enough evidence to convict him. Years later when her remains are found, her children are left wondering if they really know their father. I had high hopes for this book, but it was a bummer. I probably should have quit it, but I kept hoping it would get better. Overall it felt boring and unfinished. MY RATING: 2/5 STARS
Talking At Night by Claire Daverley
Rosie and Will are complete opposites but they fall in love as teenagers. They keep their feelings for each other hidden from everyone around them – sneaking in late night talks and walks. When tragedy strikes one night any possibility of being together disappears. As the years pass, Rosie and Will find themselves constantly being drawn back together, especially on the anniversary of the accident. This book was getting rave reviews on social media, but it was just okay for me. It felt way too long and kind of depressing. MY RATING: 3/5 STARS
A Different Way to Learn by Naomi Fisher
This book was a very informative read about self-directed education. I definitely recommend it to anyone who is homeschooling a child with learning differences. MY RATING: 4/5 STARS
My Magnolia Summer by Victoria Benton Frank
When Magnolia learns her grandmother has been in an accident, she leaves her life in NYC to return to South Carolina. She is quickly sucked back in to Sullivan’s Island and all the family drama she thought she had left behind. As she waits for her grandmother to recover and helps keep the family restaurant afloat, she must decide where she really belongs. The debut novel is filled with southern charm, family drama and strong women. MY RATING: 4/5 STARS
The Summer of Songbirds by Kristy Woodson Harvey
I loved this book so, so much! It was my favorite read this month! This book is about three best friends who are determined to save the summer camp where their friendship began two decades ago. It’s a story about friendship, first love and doing hard things. It’s the perfect summer read!!!! MY RATING: 5/5 STARS
The Summer of Broken Rules by K.L. Walther
This is a story about family traditions, friendship, grief and young love! Meredith returns to Martha’s Vineyard for the first time since her sister’s death. Will this be the summer she heals and finds herself again? MY RATING: 4/5 STARS
Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret by Judy Blume
I read this book when I was in 5th grade, but I wanted to read it again before watching the movie. I remember my mom not being very happy when she found this book in my backpack. Reading it again as an adult, I can kind of understand her reaction. It was quite a controversial book when it was written in 1970 and when my mom found it in my backpack in 1992. I’m glad I re-read this book and really enjoyed the movie. MY RATING: 4/5 STARS
