This months book haul included a lot of new releases; two by authors who I’ve loved in the past. I also gave several books five stars! May was a good reading month!
Jackson and I also finished reading The Last Firehawk series (at least until the next book releases in June!) We read books 8-11!
Here’s what I read in May…
Happy Place by Emily Henry
Six friends come together for their last stay at a cottage in Maine – the only place that has ever felt like home to Harriett. But Harriett and Wynn have a secret. They broke up months ago and have kept it from their friends. They are determined to make the last week in Maine perfect. A story of friendship, love, finding your identity and your happy place. MY RATING: 5/5 STARS
Out of the Ashes by Kara Thomas
When she was thirteen, Sam’s parents and sister were murdered and their house was set on fire. Twenty years later she’s back in her hometown and new details about the case have emerged. Will Sam finally learn who is responsible for her families horrific murders? This book had a lot of twists and turns. It’s available on Kindle Unlimited. MY RATING: 5/5 STARS
Meet Me at the Lake by Carley Fortune
Ten years ago Fern spent an incredible 24 hours with Will. They agreed to meet one year later, but he didn’t show up. A decade after having her heart broken, Will shows up at the resort Fert is now in charge of. Seeing Will again leaves Fern with so many questions and so many feelings. Can you find your soulmate after spending one day together? Does a decade change the feeling they once shared? MY RATING: 4/5 STARS
The Boyfriend Candidate by Ashley Winstead
Logan is running for governor of Texas and gets caught fleeing from a burning building with Alexis. Not a good thing for his campaign. To save his reputation they decide to pretend to be a couple until the election is over. I really enjoyed this cute rom-com! MY RATING: 5/5 STARS
Practice Makes Perfect by Sarah Adams
Sweet Annie and bad boy Will agree to “practice dating” to help Annie overcome her dating anxiety. Is this a cheesy rom-com? Yes! Did I love it? Yes! The characters and the witty banter were perfection. It’s a feel good book that made me laugh out loud. MY RATING: 5/5 STARS
Summer Reading by Jenn McKinlay
What a breath of fresh air – a book with a neurodivergent main character! Sam is dyslexic and has felt shame regarding her learning disability most of her life. Until she meets Ben. Ben is a librarian. Ben loves books. Ben sees the incredible person Sam is and teachers her how to fall in love with a good story. The author does a wonderful job writing about the characteristics of a neurodivergent individual. The book is also written in a dyslexic friendly font. MY RATING: 3/5 STARS
Bad Summer People by Emma Rosenblum
I have mixed feelings about this book, which is about two couples who summer on Fire Island. The summer is filled with infidelity, backstabbing and murder. It felt like a really long read and there were so many characters, non of them likable. I was invested because I wanted to know who was murdered, but it wasn’t my favorite read. There was a nice plot twist at the end. MY RATING: 2/5 STARS
