Something that’s brought me a lot of joy this month is getting lost in a good book series with Jackson. We read books 1-7 of The Last Firehawk Series this month.
It’s the first series he begs me to keep reading. He says the books deserve 100 stars. He and I are having great conversations as we read. He’s able to answer the discussion questions at the end of each book, and has shown improvement in his comprehension skills! Seven books finished, five to go (because I just discovered book 12 will be released in June!)
Here’s what else I read this month…
The Love Wager by Lynn Painter
I loved this swoony rom-com. The banter between Jack and Hallie is perfection. I laughed out loud several times. Jack and Hallie decide to be each others wing man after they both sign up for a dating app to find “the one.” They make a friendly wager: who will be the first to find true love. They soon realize the best part of their dates is meeting up with each other for tacos and conversation afterwards. MY RATING: 5/5 STARS
Pineapple Street by Jenny Jackson
I saw this book on Instagram and bought it when I was in Florida. It was okay. It’s a story about relationships. Sasha doesn’t fit into Darley and Georgiana’s worlds. Her husband’s sisters are rich and hard to relate to. Each woman goes through a sort of awakening about their life. The book felt slow at times and I kept waiting for something “more” to happen. It just felt like something was missing. MY RATING: 2.5/5 STARS
You’re Not Enough and That’s Okay by Allie Beth Stuckey
I stumbled across this author on Instagram and thought her book looked interesting. It’s about the importance of Christians finding their identity/contentment in Jesus. No amount of self-help can change our hearts, only Jesus can. There were parts of the book I didn’t relate to. I think it’s because I’m more than a decade older than the author. MY RATING: 3/5 STARS
Her Deadly Game by Robert Dugoni
Keera Duggan is in the game of her life – defending a suspected murderer while her ex-boyfriend prosecutes him. After a bad breakup, she’s forced to work at her family law firm, which has taken a hit to its reputation because of her alcoholic father. Can she win the case and restore the firm’s reputation? MY RATING: 3/5 STARS
The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth
I stayed up way past my bedtime to finish this book. It was a quick read. Gabe and Pippa witness a woman take her own life (or did she?) When the body is identified Pippa doesn’t think it’s a coincidence that her husband was the last person to see Amanda alive. So many great twist and turns in this book! MY RATING: 5/5 STARS
Good for You by Camille Pagan
I came across this book on social media and it was available on Kindle Unlimited. Aly finds herself on a mandatory leave from her job, newly single and needing to take care of her brother’s house since he left it to her in his will. The last place she wants to go back to is Lake Michigan and she’s surprised to find her brother’s best friend, Wyatt at the house. Can Aly and Wyatt help each other through their grief? This is a rom-com with depth. I really enjoyed it. MY RATING: 5/5 STARS
