We’ve been in Michigan for almost four months. It’s taken every bit of that time to decompress after being nomads for six weeks. Jackson and I lived with my parents in Texas for three weeks, we met up with John and stayed in St. Louis for a week and then spent two weeks at a lake cottage outside of Detroit until our house was finished.
I had never been so ready to be settled in my own home.
Once we moved in, we had to adjust to a new time zone and the fact that it didn’t get dark until almost 10:30. Our sleep schedules were so out of whack. We became night owls for the first time in our lives and found ourselves sleeping in much later than we ever had.
Yes, we were finally in our new home, but I felt so out of sorts.
Last weekend I knew I had to get serious about getting back on a schedule.
For the sake of my physical and mental health, I needed to get back to doing the things that help me thrive.
Here’s the three things I’m doing each day, which help me be a better wife, mama, friend and homeschool teacher.
Bible Study
Each morning I’m opening my Bible to spend time in God’s word. I’m currently using a study from Well-Watered Women and I love it! I’m also trying to make prayer a bigger priority in my life, as well as, scripture memorization.
Speaking of scripture memorization, I have no idea why I have never tried to memorize scripture using this method (see photo), but it’s my new favorite thing. I absolutely love this idea and it really does help me get God’s word in my heart.
Moving My Body
During the pandemic, I was in the best shape of my life. I lost twenty pounds and worked out each day. A stressful move kind of put my exercise routine on the back burner. Truthfully, I have always struggled with finding a healthy balance when it comes to working out. I can get really fixated on the number on the scale instead of focusing on the most important thing – working out for my mental and physical health.
This week I started Job 1 to get myself back into an exercise routine. It’s 20 minutes a day and includes a lot of strength training, which I really enjoy.
Reading Good Books
I want to spend less time scrolling social media and more time reading books. Reading is one of my favorite forms of self-care and I’m making sure to make it a priority each day.
