My summer reading is off to a great start. This is the colorful stack I hope to finish by the end of August (plus a few books on my Kindle). I also can’t forget the new Elin Hilderbrand novel. Is it even summer without her newest release?
This month I read more Young Adult books than I normally read, but I enjoyed each one. I also read a creepy thriller that I probably wouldn’t have chosen had it not been our bookclub pick for the month. Here’s the books I read in June…
The Peach Rebellion by Wendelin Van Draanen
This book is about an unlikely friendship between three girls from very different worlds. Ginny Rose and Peggy became friends when they were seven. Ginny Rose and her father picked peaches in Peggy’s family orchard. Ten years later, the girls reunite only to discover that the world is not the same for everyone, especially Lisette, the banker’s daughter. But Ginny Rose has a secret and she’s going to need true friends to help her with her plan. Will Peggy and Lisette help her? Will the three girls stand up for what the believe in? Sometimes it takes a radical act of courage to bring about the change your heart so desperately wants.
This is a young adult historical fiction – not a book I would normally pick up, but the beautiful cover and recommendations on Instagram made me give it a try. I’m so glad I did!!!
The Summer I Turned Pretty Trilogy by Jenny Han
I devoured this trilogy in one week! I wanted to read it before the show released on Amazon this month. Belly and her family spend every summer at Cousins Beach with her mom’s best friend Beck, and her sons Conrad and Jeremiah. This series is light, breezy and romantic. The perfect summer books about Belly and the boys that have her heart.
The Islanders by Mary Alice Monroe
Jackson and I read this book together. It’s about three kids spending their summer on an island in South Carolina. They spend their days exploring the island and help take care of the sea turtle nests along the beach. It was a fun read to kick off our summer.
Beach House Summer by Sarah Morgan
Joanna is shocked to discover her ex-husband has been killed in a car accident. Even more shocking is that his daughter – who he’d never met – was in the car with him. An unlikely relationship forms between Joanna and her ex-husband’s daughter, Ashley. After the accident, they flee to the beach town where Joanna grew up – away from the press, but towards the unresolved issues of Joanna’s past. I honestly didn’t love this book as much as I’ve loved Morgan’s previous books. It took me much longer to finish it than it should have.
My Perfect Daughter by Sarah A. Denzil
A great thriller about a woman who escapes a serial killer and rescues his daughter in the process. Zoe goes on to adopt Maddie and will do anything to protect her daughter. When several local teenage girls go missing, Maddie becomes a suspect. Will Zoe stand by her daughter or will she finally realize she can’t help the girl who spent the first years of her life with a serial killer? This was our book club pick for June and I really liked it!
