I’m starting the year strong in the reading department. I cannot guarantee I will be able to read this many books every month, but I’m sure going to make sure reading is a priority.
I finished six books this month, here’s a little bit about them…
How To Walk Away By Katherine Center
Margaret has a bright future ahead of her – she’s about to land her dream job and she has an amazing fiancé. Her life is suddenly shattered when she’s involved in an airplane crash that leaves her paralyzed.
After the accident, her fiancé bails, the job is given to someone else and Margaret isn’t sure how she’ll move on. But then she meets Ian, her physical therapist, and he’s not falling for her pity party.
This is the first book I’ve read by Katherine Center and I really, really enjoyed it. I found myself highlighting parts parts towards the end of the book, and I don’t usually do that when reading a fiction book.
It’s Not Supposed To Be This Way By Lysa TerKeurst
I think we’ve all said those words before, when life hands us hard stuff that doesn’t make any sense. This book helps the reader find God’s goodness and grace even in the midst of hell and heartbreak.
We Were Mothers By Katie Sise
A tight-knit neighborhood is rocked when a mother discovers her teenage neighbor’s journal, which reveals a shocking secret. It’s not long after the journal is found that the teenager turns up missing.
This book has a super twisty plot that leaves the reader guessing how the story will end.
Unexpected Blessings: The Joys & Possibilities of Life in a Special Needs Family By Sandra Peoples
I decided to read this book after several special needs mom’s recommended it. Peoples is very transparent about the joys and challenges of raising a son with Autism. She writes about her dreams changing, grief, adjusting expectations, strengthening relationships with family and friends and many other topics.
In Dog We Trust By Beth Kendrick
I love all of Beth Kendrick’s books because they are fun, easy reads. They are perfect to read after a long day of mothering.
When Jocelyn Hillier is named legal guardian of a pack of pedigreed Labrador retrievers, her world is flipped upside down. She’s used to doing laundry for the tourists of Black Dog Bay, not doting on dogs that cost more than her life savings.
As she adjusts to her new lifestyle, she discovers several people aren’t thrilled that the late Mr. Allardyce named her legal guardian of the pups. She finds herself fighting Liam, the late benefactor’s estranged son, to keep her fur family together.
Teaching From Rest: A Homeschooler’s Guide to Unshakeable Peace By Sarah Mackenzie
This book has rocked my world. Biggest take away – God has not called me to be successful, He has called me to be faithful. I highly recommend this book to any homeschool mama who suffers from a super Type-A personality the way I do. This will be a book I read again, to remind myself to chill out and trust God.
What I’m Using During My Quiet Time:
New Morning Mercies By Paul David Tripp
I hate when I buy a devotional and it’s nothing but fluff and feel good words. I want something with a little meat and substance. After seeing this devotional shared all across social media, I knew I needed to get it. I was looking for something I could do each morning that would get me into God’s word, but wouldn’t take an hour to complete. I’m a busy mama after all!
This book is exactly what I was looking for and I’m enjoying it so much. The devotions aren’t filled with fluff. They are overflowing with Truth and Hope and God’s grace. I love how there is a section of scripture at the end of each daily reading for further study.
It’s Not Supposed To Be This Way Study By Lysa TerKeurst
A group of friends and I are working our way through the book and the Bible study component of It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way. We are all busy mamas, so we are meeting every other week. We have plenty of time to sit down and work through the study, without having to commit to long sections of study time each day.
