Send Fewer Cards
Sending Christmas cards is one of my most favorite things to do. I also love receiving them. However, in the past few years the number of cards landing in my mailbox have dwindled. Fewer people are sending cards (which makes me really sad), but I also wonder how many people really care whether or not they get one from our family. The truth is I put a lot of pressure on myself to send cards to everyone and that’s stress I just don’t want to have this year. So I’m not doing it! I shortened by list and it’s freeing!
NOT Take a Picture Perfect Family Photo
This year I used our Halloween Family Photo. Yep, that’s right, Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman will be showing up in the mailboxes of our closest friends and family! The card is actually pretty awesome and it’s a true representation of our family!
But then I snapped these photos the other day and secretly wished I hadn’t already ordered our cards. Because how cute is this kid? These photos have Christmas magic written all over them…
Buy Fewer Gifts
This year Jackson’s getting a Disney vacation for his birthday/Christmas. There will be a couple of Lego sets wrapped under the tree, but that’s about it. It has felt so good not having to stress about what to buy because the truth is Jackson needs nothing! Heck, he doesn’t play with half the toys he owns. This year we are trading in the toys for an experience of a lifetime. I am looking forward to making memories with my little family!
Put Up Christmas Decorations Before Thanksgiving
I usually don’t rush through Fall and Thanksgiving, but this year I decided I wanted to enjoy the magic of Christmas as long as we could before traveling over the holidays. Jackson is really excited about Christmas and his excitement has made me get in the Christmas spirit a little sooner than I normally do! This weekend he put his tree up in his room. He is so proud of it and wants to sleep with the twinkling lights on! He also got two new ornaments. We also visited Santa yesterday! Jackson asked for a green monster truck from Bass Pro Shop! When Santa asked him if he wanted anything else, he said, Just one toy! Thank goodness Santa ordered that green monster truck this weekend when it was on sale. 😉
Leave That Silly Elf On The Shelf
Or in my case, the box!! Last year I caved. I said I wasn’t going to do the silly Elf on a Shelf thing, but I did. Jackson thought it was awesome for about three days. Then he stopped looking for the elf and one day I realized the elf hadn’t been moved in days and Jackson didn’t even care! So why in the world would I stress myself out over something so silly. Not doing it this year! Who needs an elf when you get to spend Christmas with a mouse!
