A few nights ago Jackson climbed onto his bed and handed me one of his favorite books.
It’s about a duck, a goose, and a pumpkin.
It’s the perfect Fall read, except that we read it in spring, summer, and winter, too.
I’ve been guilty of hiding the book because who wants to read about pumpkins when it’s a scorching 100 degrees outside.
But the temperatures have started to drop and it’s October. It’s the perfect time to help duck and goose find a pumpkin.
So Jackson and I cuddled up together and I started to read (or maybe recite) the book we’ve read time and time again.
But this time something magical happened.
Me: Is the pumpkin in the water goose?
Jackson: Nooooo (he drags it out just like his mommy does when she reads).
Me: Is the pumpkin under the leaf pile duck?
Jackson: Noooo
And there snuggled on his bed I witnessed glory in the ordinary.
His little voice – something I seldom hear but long for – reciting the book he has grown to love.
I ran to get my phone in hopes that he’d help me read one more time. I wanted to capture the cute no’s.
I pushed record and was wrapped up in glory once again.
During the 31 Day Writing Challenge, my ebook Trucks, Tantrums, & Trusting Him: Confessions of a Boy Mom will be on sale for 99 cents on Amazon. This book is how I got the idea for the 31 Days of Finding Glory in the Ordinary series. You can purchase a copy here.
