October is a good month for reading thrillers and that’s exactly what I did this month! I enjoyed reading on my porch swing, soaking up the perfect fall weather that finally found its way to Oklahoma.
This months reads were a little more on the heavy side, but next month I’ll start reading my (very big) stack of holiday books, which are light, fun and just make me super happy!
If you’re looking for a good fall read, you should definitely check out these titles…
Not a Happy Family by Shari Lapena
If you love a good thriller/murder mystery that keeps you guessing, this is a must read. The Merton family is dysfunctional with a capital D. When Fred and Sheila Merton are found brutally murdered, all eyes are on their three children. Each of them have reasons to get rid of their parents. Lies, alibis and evidence will keep you guessing with each turn of the page. By the end of the book, I found myself disliking each character.
After I finished the book, I tuned into the Bestie Breakdown podcast to hear what Shay and Erica thought about the thriller. Give it a listen if you’ve read the book!
One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid
This book has been sitting on my shelf for quiet some time. I am so glad I finally read it. I really loved this book. I can see it making my top three list of 2021.
Emma and Jesse are high school sweethearts who move from Massachusetts to California to live an adventurous life. The day before their first wedding anniversary, Jesse boards a flight to Alaska, but never returns home. In her grief, Emma moves back to Massachusetts. Three years after the helicopter crash, Emma is celebrating her engagement and the life she loves, when she receives a phone call – Jesse’s alive! Emma must choose between her old life and her new one, but how is that possible when you love two men?
Everything We Didn’t Say by Nicole Baart
This book had a bit of a slow start for me, but the writing was beautiful, so I stuck with it.
The author describes the sunset as, a watercolor smudge of citrus. Tangerine and grapefruit and blood orange spilled across the horizon.
*swoon*
The gist of the book is that Juniper Baker is back in Jericho – the last place she ever expected to return. She left fifteen years ago after a double homicide rocked the small Iowa town. The community still believes her brother is guilty of the murders, but she’s determined to uncover the truth of what happened that Fourth of July night.
The Nantucket Inn and Nantucket Neighbors by Pamela Kelley
I’m a big fan of books based on Nantucket Island. I’ve read everything written by Elin Hilderbrand. When a friend recommended this book series on Instagram, I knew I needed to read it. I finished the first two books and they were light, fun and easy reads that I finished in just a few days.
Lisa Hodges is left with a dried up bank account because of her dead husband’s gambling addiction. She’s determined to stay on Nantucket Island, close to her four grown children, so she turns her home into a bed and breakfast. This book series is all about the Hodges Family and life on Nantucket Island.
The Serial Killer’s Wife by Alice Hunter
This was my book club read for the month and I listened to the audio book. I needed something to pass the time when I was on the treadmill each day! I loved this book. I was hooked from the start – a page turner with plenty of twists!
Tom and Beth seem like a normal couple, happily raising their three-year-old daughter. When the police show up at their door one night, Beth is afraid something has happened to her husband. She’s shocked to discover he’s being arrested in connection with a missing woman. As evidence mounts against Tom, Beth must do whatever it takes to protect her daughter and herself.
