This month I enjoyed floating in the pool and reading good books on my Kindle Paperwhite. Do you have one? They are AMAZING!!!!
I read a wide variety of books – thrillers, murder mysteries, beach reads, a homeschooling book and a children’s book I really enjoyed.
There’s just nothing like a good book in the summer. Thankfully, summer isn’t over yet and I still have stacks and stacks of books waiting to be devoured. It’s a good problem to have.
My most favorite book this month was Float Plan by Trish Doller.
This book gave me ALL. THE. FEELS! It might rank as one of my top books this year!
Anna, grieving the loss of her fiance, decides to take the sailing trip they had planned together – alone. A journey that begins as running away from her pain, becomes a time of healing and discovering her true self. This book is full of adventure, heartache, romance, friendship and self-discovery. Doller writes: But I’m starting to understand how sadness and happiness can live side by side within a heart. And how that heart can keep on beating.
If you need a good read to finish out summer, RUN to your nearest bookstore and grab this one. You won’t be disappointed.
Here’s what else I read this month…
Golden Girl by Elin Hilderbrand
If you’ve been reading my book reviews for any length of time, you know that I love Elin Hilderbrand novels. They’re the perfect summer reads, set on Nantucket. I was a little uncertain about her newest book after reading a not-so-great review by Mix and Match Mama, but I ended up really enjoying it.
Vivi, a best-selling author who lives on Nantucket, is killed in a hit and run accident and ascends to the Beyond. While there, she’s allowed to watch her grown children – Willa, Carson and Leo – adjust to life without her. She gets a front row seat for their grief and the struggles they each face. Vivi is granted three “nudges” that she can use to change the outcome of events on earth.
But Vivi’s greatest worry isn’t her children, it’s the release of her newest book, which holds secrets that she didn’t share with anyone. Will Vivi use her nudges to help her children or to save her reputation?
In Her Tracks by Robert Dugoni
Seattle homicide detective Tracy Crosswhite is back! I absolutely love this series and book eight did not disappoint.
When Tracy Crosswhite returns from an extended leave, she finds that she has been reassigned to the cold case unit. She is immediately drawn to the abduction of a five-year-old girl whose parents were prime suspects. As Tracy digs into the old case, she finds herself also involved in an active missing persons case – a young women who disappeared on an isolated jogging trail. Tracy is determined to find out what happened to the little girl and the woman.
Verity by Colleen Hoover
Holy cow! Several friends begged me to read this book, so I finally did. It left my head spinning. Here’s the deal – based on what I’ve read, people either love or hate this book. It’s definitely rated R and it’s disturbing, but that’s what made it such a good read, in my opinion. There were so many plot twists! I couldn’t put it down!
Lowen Ashley is a struggling writer. She’s hired to complete best-selling author Verity Crawford’s book series after she is injured in an accident. Lowen arrives at the Crawford home to begin research for the project, but soon discovers Verity’s unfinished autobiography. The manuscript is chilling and includes dark secrets; including details from the night the Crawford’s daughter died.
The Sixth Wedding By Elin Hilderbrand
This is a continuation of 28 Summers, which I absolutely loved. Jake McCloud returns to Nantucket for Labor Day weekend 2023, this time without Mallory.
The Line Tender by Kate Allen
I bought this book to read to Jackson during Shark Week, but quickly realized the content was a little too mature for my 9-year-old. However, I decided to keep reading and I’m so glad I did. I really loved this book.
Lucy was seven years old when she lost her shark-loving, marine biologist, mom. The summer she turns twelve, a great white washes up on the shore of Rockport, Massachusetts. Lucy can’t help but think of her mom and soon discovers a research project she was working on when she died – why were the great whites returning to Cape Cod? Lucy isn’t sure, but with the help of several people who loved her mother as much as she did, she’s determined to find out.
No Hiding in Boise by Kim Hooper
This was my bookclub read for July and I finished it in two days!
Three women’s lives are dramatically changed after a shooting occurs at Ray’s Bar. Five people are killed and two seriously injured. Angie has no idea why her husband Cale was at the bar when the shooting occurred. She would ask him, but he’s in a coma. Tessa is the 23-year-old bartender who hid in the storage closet and survived. She’s struggling from PTSD and can’t stop questioning why she lived when the others died. Joyce is the mother of Jed, the man responsible for the shooting. The three women find themselves tied together by tragedy as they search for answers about that fateful night.
The 4 Hour School Day by Durenda Wilson
As a homeschool mama I’m always looking for continuing education. This book has been a refreshing reminder that homeschool is not supposed to look like public school. I need to be reminded of that often! It’s encouraging me as we gear up to start more structured learning after taking some time off this summer. Definitely recommend it to my fellow homeschool mamas or anyone considering homeschool.
