I love Christmas music! John begs me to wait until after Thanksgiving to start playing it, but I don’t always oblige. This year ( when John wasn’t around) Christmas music was filling my house (and car) by mid-November.
Christmas music makes me happy!
There are memories attached to those songs.
I remember sitting on my parent’s bed as a little girl, holding the brown rotary phone up to my ear, and singing Away in a Manger with my Meme before bedtime.
I remember my parents putting George Strait’s Christmas album on the record player.
My mom also had a record with the songs I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas and All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth.
A favorite childhood memory is riding to school with Amber and Aimee and listening to Alabama’s Christmas cassette. Songs like Christmas in Dixie, Thistlehair the Christmas Bear and Thank God for Kids still warm my heart.
The following CD’s are currently playing in my car (and the listed songs are on repeat!)
Martina McBride’s White Christmas
Her version of Oh Holy Night is my all-time favorite! Sends chills down my spine. I also like her rendition of Do You Hear What I Hear
George Strait’s Merry Christmas Strait to You
This album takes be back to my childhood and I could play it over and over and over. Favorite songs are: There’s a New Kid in Town, Away in a Manger, For Christ’s Sake, It’s Christmas and When It’s Christmas Time in Texas.
Faith Hill’s Joy to the World
I love her version of Joy to the World and Little Drummer Boy. The song A Baby Changes Everything is another favorite.
Kenny Chesney’s All I Want For Christmas Is A Real Good Tan
I love his remakes of Christmas in Dixie and Thank God for Kids. The song that just sums up Christmas for me is Just a Kid; absolutely breathtaking song about the true meaning of Christmas.
Lee Ann Womack’s The Season for Romance
Lee Ann and Harry Connick Jr. have the absolute BEST version of Baby It’s Cold Outside!
Travis Cottrell’s Ring The Bells
Ring the Bells featuring Natalie Grant is gorgeous! In The First Light is the Christmas story in song and wrapped up in the prettiest package! Jesus Saves is another favorite off this album.
I’m sure I’m leaving off many amazing Christmas songs; but these are the ones I find myself listening to over and over again year after year!
What songs stir up the best Christmas memories for you?
