I’m not good at keeping secrets. So when my children’s book went live Wednesday, I had to share the Amazon link right away.
I probably should have waited a day or so; come up with a book release plan – you know, blog posts, social media updates and maybe even a team of people to help me spread the word. But I didn’t do any of that.
I told Jackson’s speech therapist, a few writing friends, and before I knew it the word was out. I decided a formal release just wasn’t needed. I just needed to get this book in the hands of children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech.
I believe this little book is going to do big things! Why you ask??
Because this project was completely a God thing.
I’ve wanted to write a children’s book for years. There’s even one scribbled on yellow legal paper, tucked into the top drawer of my bedside table. I just never finished it.
But Jackson Finds His Voice came to me as we drove home from speech therapy one morning. Writing a children’s book wasn’t even on my mind. But the words hit me full force and I knew I had to write them down.
So I did; while Jackson napped that day.
I had to write about a little boy on a journey to find his voice.
I had to write a children’s book about Childhood Apraxia of Speech for several reasons.
1. As a tool Jackson can use to share his story.
2. To raise awareness for the speech disorder.
3. To help give a voice to those still searching for theirs.
As I wrote the words I imagined sitting in Jackson’s pre-K classroom. I was reading the story so others could better understand my son.
I cried during the writing process.
Because our story is hard.
Because our story is beautiful.
Because I am inspired daily by the little boy who works so hard to speak.
I am passionate about this project.
It is my prayer that this book will be tool that Jackson and other kids with Apraxia can use to share their story!
It’s also my prayer that the people at the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America (CASANA) will take a peek at my book and help spread the word to other families walking the same journey. I’ll be sending a complimentary copy to the executive director to review.
When Jackson was diagnosed with Apraxia God whispered something that snuffed out the fear.
He said, this is another part of your story. It’s another way for My glory to be proclaimed in your lives.
Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. (John 9:3)
And that’s my prayer for this book.
That He will get every ounce of glory.
That through our struggles you will see HIS sovereignty.
That through the silence you will hear HIS voice.
