There’s really too many to list. The long laid-back days. Mornings spent watching Jackson play in the backyard before the temperatures reach triple digits. Lots and lots of Popsicles dripping sticky down his chin. Trips to the zoo and the water park. Delivering cookies to the fire station. A visit from my high school best friend. Taking Jackson to see the new Disney Planes movie.
But what I’ve loved most about this summer, hasn’t been one particular activity, but the memories I’ve been making each day with Jackson. I’ve pushed aside the to-do list, I’ve taken a break from the blog, and it’s been the most freeing thing. I’ve just soaked up these moments with my son, because he won’t be a toddler forever.
Lately it’s dawned on me that he’s closer to three than he is to two. These days are fleeting and I’ve loved experiencing summer through the eyes of a two-year-old boy.
To hear him laugh, joy spilling out, as he sneaks behind his mama and sprays me with the water hose.
To let him eat ice cream for the main course.
To watch as he learns to ride his new red tricycle.
To end the day sticky with sweat and covered in sand.
I’ve taken a thousand photos. I keep listing the gifts that God places before me each day.
I’m living in the present more than I ever have before.
My heart is overflowing with gratitude.
***Today I’m joining my friend Beth for Get to Know You Monday. You can join the fun here. I’d love to hear what your favorite summer activity is. Why don’t you leave a comment below!
