There’s a new show on Disney Junior about a cat named Callie. A sheriff in the Wild West, she’s always got a lesson to teach her friends.
In one episode Penelope the Skunk wants to rope and ride like the famous stunt rider Fox who is visiting town. There’s just one problem – Penelope doesn’t know anything about riding a horse.
Callie and her friends try and talk Penelope out of doing stunts on a horse, but she just won’t listen. She’s jealous of all the attention the Fox is getting. Suddenly growing beautiful roses isn’t good enough for Penelope, although her friends love her flowers.
Watching the episode with Jackson, a question crossed my mind. Haven’t we all wished for different gifts?
I know I have. I’d love to be an amazing photographer with fabulous editing skills. But truth be told, I still take a lot of photos using auto.
God has given each of us a unique set of gifts. He doesn’t want us to waste our time wishing we had the gifts of someone else.
1 Peter 4:10 says, Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
It’s a waste of time to compare ourselves to others.
In her book Restless, Jennie Allen writes, Comparison is often why our important roles shrink to seem so insignificant. Comparison robs us of the joy of obedience.”
Each of us has something to contribute to God’s kingdom that nobody else can. What has God asked you to contribute?
